The "Belfry" Sand Box II is one of the best bat houses we have ever built. It is long lasting, no maintenance, welded for strength and alignment, draft proof and Improved Stucco for looks and reliability. All of the above have been the features that have made the "Belfry" line of bat houses very successful.

In an effort to attract even greater numbers of bats in each house we added a large separate chamber in the top section, (see dark area in pictures), that is designed to be filled with 11 1/2 lbs. dry sand and sealed. This large mass of added sand absorbs the warm rays from the sun and helps stabilize the inside temperature, especially the attic, top and lower roosting area helping the bats in maintaining their body temperature and aids greatly in warming the interior for the pups fast growth.
Air vents in the lower area, (see bottom view picture), will prevent overheating and eliminates sunlight from the interior.

The long length is a desired feature in bat habitat. This permits the occupants to move up, down or around to find their most desired temperature range.
Price includes shipping (FedEx Ground) within continental U.S.A $227.95 plus sales tax where applicable.

Mounting Instructions:

Please read the General Bat Information carefully included in your shipment. This will furnish you with ideas and advice that should increase your chances of success with this project.

At the desired spot dig a hole 16" in diameter and 30" deep. Utilizing the pivot system, lower the pivot into the hole and apply concrete. Using a level for alignment will be necessary. Allow sufficient drying time. Remove the wire (that is securing the stinger during shipment) and allow the "stinger" to lay flat. Slide your support pipe onto the stinger. Next slide the two galvanized steel brackets onto the pole and attach the house(s). Use caution not to over-tighten as damage to the unit may occur.

We recommend using a tractor with a front bucket or back-hoe to raise the support pipe. Utilize a load sling or chain that is wrapped tightly at least three times (to keep the sling or chain from slipping). Position the tightly wrapped chain or load sling not more than 3 or 4 feet below the bottom of the bat houses. Have the operator to be directly behind the pivot with the front-end bucket or boom up, backup slowly and raise the support pole very carefully. The last few inches can be finished by hand. As always, when using equipment, use caution and safety in raising or lowering the support system.
